Minor & Child Safety Policy

Overview

This document is a working draft prepared for the Brillo platform. Brillo takes extra precautions for account holders who are not yet adults. This policy explains our age tiers, what a parent or guardian's role is, and what is never permitted involving a minor on Brillo.

Age tiers

• Under 13: Brillo is not intended for children under 13. An account cannot be created, and no unnecessary information is retained once age is determined.
• 13 to 17: A minor may only use permitted features with the knowledge, permission, and active supervision of a parent or legal guardian, and only after that guardian has completed our consent process. A minor may never independently host or claim a giveaway, negotiate a transaction, send or accept a purchase offer, arrange a pickup, share private contact information, or attend a meeting alone.
• 18 and older: Adult users may independently use permitted transaction and pickup features, subject to all safety acknowledgments described in our In-Person Pickup Safety Policy.

A user's exact date of birth is never displayed publicly.

Guardian consent is email-based, not identity verification

When a 13-17 account is created, we email the guardian contact provided and ask them to review and consent to the minor's use of Brillo. This process confirms that a specific email address received and responded to that request -- it does not verify the guardian's real-world identity, confirm that they are actually the minor's legal guardian, or confirm the minor's own identity. Families should treat this the same as any other email-based consent process: a meaningful step, not a background check.

Prohibited conduct involving minors

The following are strictly prohibited on Brillo and may result in immediate account restriction pending investigation:

• Asking a minor to meet without a parent or guardian present
• Encouraging a minor to hide any communication from their guardian
• Offering a card, prize, money, ride, or gift to persuade a minor to meet privately
• Asking a minor for their home address, school, live location, private photos, or other unnecessary personal information
• Sending a minor sexual, romantic, threatening, coercive, or exploitative messages
• Impersonating a parent, guardian, Brillo employee, or other authority
• Continuing contact after a user or guardian has asked that it stop
• Any attempt to groom, exploit, intimidate, traffic, defraud, or otherwise endanger another person
